It’s not every day you get to give something back while doing what you love. But this weekend, some VFS Makeup Design students and alumni did just that, donating their time and expertise to the 41st Annual Variety Show of Hearts Telethon!
The Show of Hearts Telethon raises funds to support a myriad of children’s charities, including B.C. Children’s Hospital and Canuck Place. In four decades, Variety’s given $130 million to the people who need it most.
Three current Makeup Design students and five grads volunteered their time back in January for the pre-taped segment of the show, sprucing up a troupe of performers from CirKids. For the live portion, which aired on the 10th and 11th on Global BC, there was yet more to be done. “Rapid-fire makeup mode” is how grad David Buntan, pictured above with some SG-1 Jaffa who needed his services, put it. “It was a bit stressful,” he says, “But it was fun to do and see behind the scenes of a telethon!”
Best of all, the telethon raised a record total in donations, $7.5 million! Way to go, guys!
