It still hasn’t been a year since the first EBMers graduated, and already they’re moving up in the world. We last told you about Nick Soukthavone when he was working for the Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Now he’s been hired in a position much closer to his dream job.
Nick, tell us what you’re doing now.
I am an Associate Talent Agent. I work for Northern Exposure Talent Management Group with Lisa King. I love it! It is exactly what I wanted. I left EBM wanting to become a Talent Agent, and being here has put me on the right track.
That’s fantastic! So, what does an Associate Talent Agent do, exactly?
My role as an Associate Talent Agent is kind of complicated to explain, but I will do my best. My role is to assist the Agent with their everyday duties such as audition calls, and sending sides, scripts and breakdowns to our clients. I coordinate all audition times with the clients as well as the casting directors. I have to maintain all the bookings and audition logs. I need to be aware of our clients’ schedules as well as their contract deals, in case any issues arise or there are any questions.
And how did you make this move?
I was referred by two people in the industry, one of whom is an Associate from The Characters Talent Agency. I was pretty fortunate to have that. I got the referrals through volunteering at Characters during my year in EBM. I remained in contact with everyone there even after I had left to work with the Whitecaps. They knew my passion was to be an agent so I would constantly ask them to consider me if anything came up. I pretty much just worked my ass off, made a good impression, and kept in contact to prove to them I am serious.
Words to live (and get hired) by. Thanks, Nick.
