In 2008, we joined forces with Computer Graphics World and HP to offer an exclusive scholarship to VFS.
And now we’re thrilled to announcing the winner, Joseph Christopher Thomas of Wappingers Falls, NY, who has been awarded a full-tuition scholarship to the one-year 3D Animation & Visual Effects program at VFS. Congratulations, Jospeph!
“This scholarship has given me the opportunity to push my artistic skills further than I have ever pushed before,” Joseph says. “It has shown that people I have never met have that much faith in what I am potentially capable of in the end.”
The judging panel that, in conjunction with the VFS Scholarship Selection Committee, chose Joseph from an incredible field of entries, consisted of:
Karen Moltenbrey, Chief Editor, Computer Graphics World
Nicklas Andersson, Animator, Framestore CFC
Mark Breakspear, Visual Effects Supervisor, CIS Vancouver
Warren Grubb, Animation Director/VFX Supervisor, Fathom Studios
Bruce Woloshyn, Visual Effects Supervisor, CIS Vancouver
“This is the first time that Computer Graphics World has participated in a scholarship offer such as this, and I found the experience extremely rewarding,” says CGW’s Moltenbrey. “I was impressed with the level of aptitude exhibited by the applicants, many of whom are just embarking on their journey in animation and filmmaking.”
“Joseph, in particular, exhibited some excellent skills, and I feel strongly that his diverse life experiences, professional demeanor, and positive, enthusiastic attitude will take him far in this exciting quest. While he is still a diamond in the rough, I believe that with the exceptional training and guidance he will receive at Vancouver Film School, his talents and artistic abilities soon will shine. I wish him luck.”
We’re all looking forward to seeing what Joseph can do!
