Knowing Is Half the Battle

G.I. Joe: The Rise of CobraThe other half involves nano-mites.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra drops this week, and fans will finally have the chance to see how their childhood memories fared. Will the reimagined Joe come out shinier than Destro’s head? We’ll know tomorrow!

In any case, the film looks fantastic, with all manner of outlandish vehicles, costumes, and set-pieces. With the visual effects coming from CIS, MPC, Digital Domain, Frantic Films L.A. and others, the list of VFS grads in the credits is considerable. Among them, Senior Animator Jeremy Stewart, Texture Supervisor Ben Dishart, Visual Effects Editorial Supervisor Allen Tracy, Visual Effects Artist Sean Lewkiw, Digital Compositor Aruna Inversin, Lead Rotoscope Artist Jessica Wan, Concept Artist/Modeler Julianna Kolakis, Modeler Jelmer Boskma, and Digital Artist Tom Piedmont.

This is the 7th straight week a major Hollywood picture has come out with at least one VFS grad in the credits.

As Digital Domain’s Aruna points out on his blog, he’s personally on the verge of hitting the trifecta of big-grossing films this summer with the likely success of G.I. Joe. In fact, VFS grads have now worked on 6 of the 10 highest grossing films (domestic) of 2009 – and it’s only August!
