District 9 has been honoured with a whopping seven BAFTA nominations.

Adding to a strong awards season for the breakout sci-fi feature, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts shortlisted 3D Animation & Visual Effects grad Neill Blomkamp in the Best Director category, and Writing for Film & Television grad Terri Tatchell, along with Blomkamp, for Adapted Screenplay.

District 9 was also, not surprisingly, nominated for Special Visual Effects, as well as Cinematography, Editing, Production Design, and Sound. It only trails Avatar, The Hurt Locker, and An Education, which all had eight noms.
