Game Design Expo 2010 Scholarship Winners Announced!

We’re pleased to announce the winners of the 2010 Game Design Expo Scholarships!

Recently unveiled at Game Design Expo 2010, these scholarships bring aspiring game designers a big step closer to realizing their dream to work in the game industry, starting with one intense year in VFS’s Game Design program.

Three industry-sponsored scholarships were awarded today, ranging in value from $2,500 to $7,000.  The generous sponsors include G4TechTV, Annex Pro, and Radical Entertainment.

Also announced was the winner of the second annual Women in Games Scholarship. Created to foster more opportunities for talented women in the game industry, this scholarship includes full tuition to Game Design.

Anne Dickerson, Washington, DC, USA – Women in Games Scholarship

Aubrey Tennant, Toronto, ON, Canada – $7,000 G4TechTV scholarship
Jie (Jacky) He, Richmond, BC, Canada – $5,000 Annex Pro scholarship
Brooke Fargo, Victoria, BC, Canada – $2,500 Radical Entertainment scholarship

A former elementary school teacher, Anne first started designing games to improve the learning outcomes of her students.

“I am beyond thrilled to receive this great honor,” she says. “As an elementary school teacher, I realized the significant impact games can have on student achievement, and since leaving the classroom, I have aspired to create effective educational games.”

“I am confident that this award, along with the excellent education I will obtain through the VFS Game Design program, will bring me one step closer to achieving my goal of effecting systemic change in the field of education through games.”
