Episode 4 Recap – contains spoilers!

The episode kicks off with the makeup artists arriving at an LA gym to participate in a Foundation Challenge. The winner will receive immunity in the Spotlight Challenge coming up later in the episode. Waiting for them is Face Off host McKenzie Westmore and Layla Ali, retired American professional boxer and daughter of the legendary Muhammad Ali. The challenge? “Make your models look like they have just gone a nasty 10 rounds in the ring,” says the host. This is definitely something Ali is more than qualified to judge. The artists quickly begin transforming their models into bruised, swollen, and bloody boxers. After Ali inspects the artists work, she declares Jason as the winner for his spot-on and realistic work.

Great news for Jason, who will have the all-important immunity in this week’s Spotlight Challenge – create an original take on one of the characters in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland as a virus infected zombie. This elicits cheers from the all of the artists, except for Sarah. She has chosen the Cheshire Cat but is stumped by what to create. Fellow makeup artist Nicole, suggests to Sarah that she just take the original character and mess it up. This inspires Sarah, who also decides to focus on costuming and creates a full body suit using fur.

At the Reveal Stage, Sarah presents her Zombie Cheshire Cat for the judges (above). It’s furry, bloody, and angry. Sarah is okay with her creation but feels it’s too generic to win. That proves to be the case. The three resident judges and the guest judge, director, screenwriter, and producer Paul W.S. Anderson, tell her that she is safe this week but not one of the top looks. Going home this week is Nicole. Her creation, a Zombie Alice, is chosen as the worst look and she has to pack up her makeup kit and leave the show. The week’s best look is Roy’s Zombie Queen, loved by all of the judges for the great detailing and her crown, made up of her facial muscles and tissue. Nice work, Roy!
