It almost goes without saying that one of the big reasons students uproot their entire lives and travel from all over the world to VFS as opposed to, say, learning from tutorials in the corner of their bedroom is the chance to interact with the industry. It’s a hallmark of a year at VFS.
Case in point? Last week, two classes of 3D Animation & Visual Effects students heard from Ken Maruyama, VP of Recruiting & Academic Relations/Animation Artist Management at Sony Pictures Imageworks. He spoke with students about what the Vancouver studio is up to, what they’re recruiting for, and the things they look for in reels, portfolios, and resumes: the bread and butter of any career prep class.
